About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical-Surgical Acute Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of hospital experience License: Active Illinois RN licensure or confirmation of application Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: ACLS preferred for Charge RN position Description: The unit has 18 beds, with all but one being private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night. Common diagnoses include various general medical patients. Registered nurses are required to titrate drips, including Heparin. Charge RN coverage is available 24 hours, with potential patient assignments. House supervisors are also present 24/7. There are two patient care technicians per shift, with a ratio of 9:1 when the unit is full. Respiratory therapy equipment includes oxygen requirements up to 6L NC and stable BiPAP/CPAP as needed. Telemetry monitoring is done remotely, and unit equipment is primarily Phillips brand. Unit clerks are available 24 hours for administrative support. RNs collaborate with unit leadership for scheduling preferences. Registered nurses work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotations. There is no call or standby requirement. Traveling RNs are the first to float to other units as needed. Staff are expected to provide their own scrubs in any color, except pediatric scrubs. Traveling RNs typically have one shift in orientation with a unit preceptor. A hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7. Registered nurses are expected to attempt IV starts and utilize resources if unsuccessful. Inpatient phlebotomy teams are utilized for blood draws. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7.
