GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Commercial Credit Analyst II is responsible for performing risk analysis for complex secured and unsecured commercial loans. The credit analyst reviews, analyzes, and evaluates commercial loan applications. The credit analyst will be responsible for the accuracy of financial spreads provided to the underwriter with notes to explain analyst estimates, projections, or discrepancies. The credit analyst will maintain and strengthen relationships with members, and internal/ external originators. A Credit Analyst will mentor less senior analysts and be prepared to assist in more complex credit transactions outside of other's experience level. Maintain a thorough understanding of the credit union's commercial underwriting standards, risk philosophy, credit culture and market conditions. Exhibits good leadership ability.

TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS:

1. Review, analyze, and evaluate loan applications based on established policies, guidelines, and procedures, and apply knowledge of spreading, risk rating and loan structuring to provide a clear analysis to the supporting underwriter.
2. Review and ensure the transaction is accurate, complete and compliant.
3. Analyze credit history to determine propensity for repayment.
4. Analyze cash flow from various sources including reliability for future repayment.
5. Evaluate required documentation for accuracy and truthfulness.
6. Analyst must be able to spread and interpret tax returns, financial statements of varying quality, and complete projections for review of approval authorities.
7. Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance- including BSA, AML, TILA, HMDA, GLBA, Fair Lending, and others that are appropriate to the position.
8. Responsible for receiving initial loan application package from the loan officer or loan processor. The analyst will assist with the screening of loan applications to determine appropriate loan sizing and structure.
9. Identify and clearly note any unanswered questions in the spreads by either engaging in a discussion with the loan officer or the applicant.
10. Gather information, perform analysis, and prepare reports as directed by management.
11. Make recommendations and assist with updating product, policy and procedure materials pertaining to commercial lending.
12. Train personnel on lending policies and procedures. Provide work direction, feedback and training to less experienced staff. Mentor others in credit analysis and department procedures and policies.
13. Analyst may assist in both the loan origination analysis or credit review analysis as driven by the needs of the organization.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASKS:

1. Effective oral and written communication skills required to obtain information needed to complete an accurate and complete credit assessment of the borrower and guarantor's financial condition.
2. Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate an on-line computer terminal and other standard office equipment, such as financial calculators, personal computer, facsimile machine and telephone.
3. Effective technology and reporting skills are required to track and report loan origination activities.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTACTS & RELATIONSHIPS:

1. INTERNAL: All levels of Staff/Management/Members/Third Parties.
2. EXTERNAL: Member Applicants and their related agents such as their CPA or Broker.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. EDUCATION: Successful completion of High School curriculum is required. Associates degree is preferred.
2. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 4 years in commercial credit analysis using a LOS to assist in the production of a loan credit memo that clearly explains the risks and mitigants of the requested credit facility.
3. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Strong analytical, organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to use logical reasoning when interpreting facts and make objective observations, examinations, evaluations and recommendations.
• Remain knowledgeable on key trends in the financial services industry that impact commercial loan quality and underwriting. Solid interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to build and maintain professional relationships with originator and members.
• Extensive knowledge of commercial credit analysis including multiple commercial lending types such as the analysis of cash flow from business operations, cash flow generated by rental income from investor real estate and other sources of cash flow.
• Possess a high degree of integrity to use judgment to make appropriate and fair lending recommendations on behalf of the credit union.
• Time and queue management skills to effectively prioritize multiple objectives. Intricate understanding of regional lending market conditions and collateral values.
• Understand the use of the automated loan origination system. Operate on standard Microsoft programs and other computer operations.
• Stay up to date on changes within the department, organization, industry and current market conditions. Must work well in a fast paced and flexible production-oriented department.
• In addition to traditional cash flow methods, analyst must understand and be proficient in the analysis of UCA cash flow and be able to accurately calculate a global cash flow.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required.
2. Corrected vision within the normal range.
3. Hearing within normal range. A device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed.
4. Occasional movements throughout the department daily to interact with staff, accomplish tasks, etc.
