Physical Therapist- Acute Care Emergency

Physical Therapist – Acute Care/Emergency Experience working in the acute care setting is required; prior experience in an ED setting is a plus. $5,000 sign‑on bonus for a full‑time hire. Responsibilities Interpret physician referrals and complete musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations. Establish and implement individualized plans of care based on evaluation results and functional goals, adjusting treatment as needed. Monitor and evaluate outcomes, provide status updates to physicians and team members. Identify factors affecting patient comfort and attend to physical and psychosocial needs. Plan and complete patient discharge, including written home programs, patient/family teaching, referrals, and transition planning. Complete all required documentation (evaluations, progress notes, team conference reports, discharge summaries) per department policy and accreditation standards. Record patient care and progress, complete daily statistics, billing, and scheduling; apply insurance guidelines and maintain productivity standards. Maintain a clean, organized treatment area and perform patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties safely. Demonstrate skills with modalities, exercise equipment, and other therapeutic devices; understand indications and contraindications. Participate in safety initiatives and infection control measures. Engage in performance‑improvement activities and quality‑of‑care initiatives. Manage assigned caseload and coordinate coverage with site leadership. Pursue professional growth through continuing education, department in‑services, and literature review. Orient new staff, provide feedback, and supervise physical therapy assistants, extenders, and students as appropriate. Qualifications Education: Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program. Certification / Registration / License: Licensed Physical Therapist in the state of employment; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 90 days. Work Experience: None required. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Intermediate computer skills; excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities; competency in age‑appropriate patient assessment and care. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday. Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead; carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height over a reasonable distance. Push/pull with up to 30 lbs. of force; perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Repetitive use of hands: simple grasping 5–15 lbs. (~20% of the workday), pushing/pulling up to 75–100 lbs. (~10% of the day), fine manipulation during massage and joint mobilization. Ability to communicate effectively and respond to sensory cues; exposure to electrical and chemical hazards, blood and body fluids, and potential travel/road hazards.
