• Were looking for research engineers or scientists with experience building generative computer vision models, ideally across different diffusion-based approaches.
• You should bring 5+ years of industry experience in computer vision.
• A masters degree or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required.
• Bonus points if you have published work at top machine learning conferences.
• Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Copilot, Codex, or similar tools for development, debugging, testing, and refactoring is a plus.
• Familiarity with LLM-powered productivity tools for documentation search, experiment review, SQL or data exploration, and workflow acceleration is also desirable.

• Prototype new model architectures for Pinterest Canvas, our internal text-to-image generative model, with a focus on hands-on diffusion model implementation.
• Review research papers, contribute to team discussions, and help shape our broader visual generative strategy.
• Support the collection of relevant visual training data for Pinterest Canvas, including RLHF and targeted fine-tuning efforts.
• Share and promote your work through conferences, paper submissions, blog posts, and similar channels.
• Mentor junior researchers and research interns within our Pinterest Labs organization.

Within Pinterest Labs, our applied machine learning team works on a wide range of AI and ML efforts, including computer vision, multimodal representation learning, heterogeneous graph neural networks, generative modeling, and recommender systems. This role sits on our visual modeling team, where we are building Pinterest Canvas, an internally developed foundation text-to-image model that powers visualization, inpainting, and outpainting experiences using our rich visual-text dataset. The core Canvas group is a small, highly collaborative team of around six engineers plus a product prototyping team, giving us the chance to work deeply across model development and multimodal embedding work. We operate with flexibility, gathering in person for key moments of collaboration about 1-2 times per quarter, and this role can be based anywhere in the country. The position is not eligible for relocation assistance. We offer a competitive base salary range of $161,263 to $332,012 USD, plus equity, with final compensation determined by factors such as location, travel, prior experience, and specialized expertise.
