Elementary Paraprofessional (Classroom Teacher Support)

District 158 is seeking a paraprofessional to provide supplemental support to classroom teachers. Qualified candidates excited about joining a progressive educational team in an elementary school and dedicated to providing positive reinforcement and continuous improvement to Lansing #158 students should contact us.

The list below is meant to be illustrative, rather than inclusive. Accordingly, the list is not meant to be restrictive on the work which can be assigned the employee.

• Under the supervision of the licensed teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
• Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
• Uses the computer to facilitate reinforcement of classroom instruction.
• Assists individual children in need of special attention, including riding of school buses to assist with supervision of students.
• Performs clerical duties.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.
• Assists teachers with non-instructional duties, such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines.
• Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make up work.
• Assists with reading and storytelling.
• Assists small groups of students in the library.
• Assists with the supervision of students during arrival and dismissal, recess, and lunch periods, and on field trips.
• Supervises lunchroom and/or playground activities during the lunch periods.
• Participates in in-service training programs.
• Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the principal or his/her designee.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Creative analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

• State of Approval issued by the State Teacher Certification Board. (State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional)
• Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.
