Temporary – Addendum Position Approx. Season Dates: 8/10/2026 – 10/31/2026 (TBD) Purpose Statement The job of Head Coach is to design and implement the athletic program for assigned sport(s) in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; provide supervision of coaching personnel; supervise students during all program activities; use sound instructional techniques; serve as a positive role model; and act as a liaison for the school and program with other schools, community, and organizations. This position reports to the Athletic Director. Essential Functions Assess student athletes to provide feedback on performance and determine team placement. Attend meetings, workshops, conferences to receive and convey information related to the role. Conduct supporting activities such as parent orientations, recognition events, and banquets. Develop team and individual practice regimes (strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention) to enhance performance. Develop game strategies and plans by analyzing opponent strengths, athlete abilities, and creating plays. Guide coaching personnel in instructional techniques, practice organization, and supervision guidelines. Identify program needs and recommend expenditures for equipment and supplies. Implement practice schedules and related events to ensure efficient program operation. Instruct student athletes to promote growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Maintain records (statistics, insurance, permission forms, schedules, equipment inventories) to comply with district and athletic conference requirements. Monitor academic eligibility in compliance with AIA requirements and provide intervention when needed. Oversee assistant coaches, student managers, volunteers, etc., providing direction and monitoring activities. Promote the athletic program through clinics, skill camps, and community meetings to increase interest and participation. Respond to inquiries from students, parents, school personnel, media, and college representatives. Inform the Athletic Director of issues impacting the program (liability concerns, parent concerns). Provide appropriate supervision for all athletes and students involved. Explain and discuss the PVUSD Athletic Code of Conduct with all athletes. Maintain high standards of personal conduct; serve as role models. Ensure all coaches are cleared through PVUSD Human Resources. Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Skills: adapt to changing priorities; administer first aid; apply laws, codes and policies; coordinate with other entities; organize and communicate information; oversee financial transactions. Knowledge: community support, public relations, equipment, injury prevention and treatment, laws and regulations, eligibility guidelines, public relations protocols, professional standards and safety practices. Abilities: communicate with diverse backgrounds; handle frequent interruptions; exhibit leadership; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; model sportsmanship; motivate athletes; enforce discipline; lead and build teams; travel to off‑campus events; work extended hours including evenings and weekends. Responsibility Work under limited supervision following standardized practices; direct other persons within a small unit; utilize resources from other units as required. Work Environment Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Typical time distribution: 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing. Exposure to temperature extremes and risk of injury or illness. Experience Job-related experience required. Education High school diploma or equivalent. Required Testing, Certificates and Licences Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or Arizona Substitute Certificate or NFHS Level 2 Certificate (National Federation of State High Schools).
