The University of Portland is a National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I institution and West Coast Conference (WCC) member located in Portland, Oregon. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for supporting the University's athletic training program and working directly with primary sports coverage of Baseball and secondary coverage of Women's Rowing. Specific duties include athletic training work to prevent athletic injuries; the recognition, evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries; the rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries; and health care administration. - Serve as athletic trainer for Baseball team and serve as secondary athletic trainer for Women's Rowing.
- Evaluate, treat, and coordinate care for student-athletes, including injury prevention and rehabilitation, and provide acute care during practice and competition.
- Maintain regular communication with coaches, team physicians, sports performance staff, and athletic administration in support of teams and individual student-athletes.
- Consult and assist in areas such as athletic injury prevention, rehabilitation, and nutrition/supplement education.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and orderly environment during all athletic training activities.
- Administrative duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director/Head Athletic Trainer (i.e., policy and procedure development, budget management, supply ordering/management).
- May be required to drive student athletes and/or other University personnel to practice, games, or other functions.
- Required: Master's degree in athletic training, or related field.
- Required: Two years' experience directly related collegiate/Division I athletic training.
- Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.
- Required: BOC Certified, First Aid/CPR Certified or ability to obtain certification.
- Required: NATA and OR state licensure or ability to obtain certification.
- Required: Active driver's license.
- Superb interpersonal skills; ability to lead, motivate, develop, and interact effectively and professionally with student-athletes; ability to foster and engage in a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team setting; ability to effectively receive supervisory direction.
- Strong orientation towards continued learning and applying learning in the work setting.
- Professional demeanor and the ability to work effectively with various constituencies including prospective students, current students, their families, the general public, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and other members of the UP community.
- Ability to assist with injured student-athletes, including moving them from a playing or practice surface.
- Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations or ability to be trained therein.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to maintain private and/or confidential information, including ability to abide by all health care related privacy laws such as HIPAA.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and an excellent attention to detail.
- Professional demeanor and ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes. Ability to work effectively with various constituencies including prospective students, current students, their families, the general public, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and other members of the UP community.
- Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
- Effective ability to use and learn computers, technology, software, and applications at level of sophistication required for the duties of the position, including, without limitation, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the internet, and computerized maintenance management systems.2
- Ability to travel based on team/recruiting schedule and work irregular or late hours as needed.
- Ability to drive University and rental vehicles with student athletes and other University personnel.
- Frequently: sit, perform desk-based computer tasks; use fine manipulation and grasp; use a telephone; write by hand; sort and file paperwork.
- Occasionally: stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally: ability to attend events and activities on or off campus.
- Frequently: ability to interact and communicate with members of the University and others as necessary.
- Hours of employment: sometimes may require working flexible and/or longer hours, including nights and weekends, when necessitated by projects.
- Stress from work-related situations such as those involving challenging, important, urgent, time-sensitive, or multiple matters.

- Compliance with driving related laws and requirements: when conducting university business while driving, must comply with the Oregon Vehicle Code and University of Portland driving requirements.
