Responds to incidents such as emergencies, disturbances, natural disasters and accidents, and has the authority under Nebraska state statutes to make arrests, conduct criminal investigations, and respond to emergency situations. Works with other law enforcement agencies that have concurrent jurisdiction on MCC property as necessary and appropriate. This announcement is active through 7/28/26 at 11:59pm and will no longer be listed as of 07/29/26.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:* Participates in various departmental duties including but not limited to crime prevention and/or detection, investigating criminal activity, arrest procedures, interrogations, interviews, and ensuring the maintenance of law and order throughout the community.* Patrols buildings and grounds by foot, vehicle, or bicycle to deter unlawful or other inappropriate activity by making assigned rounds in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures to prevent crime. Secures buildings to ensure the physical security of equipment and projects. Opens and closes buildings and sets alarm systems.* Monitors, investigates and/or reports unusual or suspicious conditions or incidents. Conducts follow-up investigations as needed.* Provides information to the public, students and/or other employees on applicable rules and regulations, office and facility locations, and related issues.* Enforces Nebraska State Statutes, local ordinances and College rules and regulations.* Effectively communicates with people to include conflict resolution, information gathering, and public relations.* Responds to emergencies, in order to protect persons and property, by going to the appropriate location; assessing the situation; following prescribed instructions; applying basic knowledge of First Aid, CPR and other emergency procedures as appropriate; and requesting additional assistance when needed.* Assists in building evacuations and searches to ensure occupants' safety by notifying them of the threatening situation(s), providing instructions as directed, and looking for and reporting unidentified or unusual substances as assigned.* Prepares detailed incident reports and maintains daily log records by collecting relevant information and accurately completing routine forms.* As requested, escorts students and/or staff to their vehicles to ensure their safe passage.* Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:* Knowledge of federal laws/rules, Nebraska state statutes, city ordinances, criminal procedure.* Knowledge of College policies, rules and regulations.* Ability to operate or learn to operate assigned equipment and other security systems such as video surveillance, alarm systems, card access and other related equipment used in day to day operations of the College Police Department.* Good judgment and communication skills, including reading comprehension and writing.* Ability to function in stressful situations.* Ability to maintain good physical condition necessary for sufficient mobility to work in a law enforcement setting, restrain individuals, walk, stand, sit or run, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist and climb, push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to or 30 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Vision within normal ranges (with or without correction) and hearing within normal ranges (with or without correction).* Skill in handling conflict effectively.* Skill in using assigned police equipment.* Skill in the proficient use of firearms and less-lethal weapons.* Skill in operating standard office equipment.* Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and on a variety of shifts.* Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.* Ability to react quickly and appropriately in emergencies.* Ability to conduct investigations and to prepare reports accurately and completely.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:* High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Associates Degree preferred.* United States citizenship required.* Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of hire.* Current active duty status Nebraska Law Enforcement Officer Certification preferred but not required. Inactive certified candidates must be qualified to return to active duty status by process of reactivation. Candidates currently certified as a law enforcement officer in another state must meet reciprocity requirements to gain Nebraska certification. Non-certified candidates must meet all requirements to attend the 20-week basic training course at the Sarpy Douglas Law Enforcement Academy.* Must meet all requirements for appointment as a Nebraska Special Deputy State Sheriff.* Must pass the entry-level testing/interview process and an extensive background check, to include psychological and medical exams.* Current certification or ability to gain certification in American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR, AED and First Aid.* Valid driver’s license is required.* Candidates must have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions of crimes.* Candidates cannot be adjudged or convicted of a crime of domestic violence as defined in the United States Code, 18USC922(g)(9), which would disqualify him/her from possessing a firearm. #J-18808-Ljbffr
