As a Part Time Parks and Recreation Specialist in Cortez, you will be instrumental in executing diverse programs and events that enrich our community's recreational offerings. Your responsibilities will include planning and organizing necessary resources, while effectively leading and guiding program staff to ensure seamless operation. Serving as the primary communication link, you will engage with user groups, participants, and spectators, ensuring exceptional service delivery and fostering positive relationships. Additionally, you may contribute to broader program operations, including developing and implementing policies and procedures, planning events, and enhancing marketing strategies through external communication and content creation.

To succeed as a Part Time Parks and Recreation Specialist in Cortez, a blend of skills and qualifications is essential. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid Colorado driver's license, alongside CPR and First Aid certification or the willingness to obtain it. Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral, are critical for engaging with a diverse range of groups, including staff, contractors, and patrons. A solid understanding of leadership techniques will help you effectively guide staff and volunteers. One year of experience in recreation program management, such as event management or sports league administration, is preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required, along with the ability to learn and utilize a recreation management system for data tracking and reporting. A passion for community service and an aptitude for independent work round out the skill set necessary for this impactful role.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

• Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
• Possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.
