An Animal Feed Mill laborer processes raw agricultural grains into finished livestock feed . This specialized labor role requires heavy physical endurance, strict attention to mixing formulas, and specialized safety standards due to equipment operation.

Job Summary

A full-time feed mill laborer handles raw agricultural ingredients for processing into finished livestock feed, operates mixing machinery, packages bulk products, and cleans facilities to ensure safe and efficient feed production. Includes but not limited to, order fulfillment, loading and unloading of products, mill equipment maintenance, forklift, and pallet jack operation. The ideal candidate will ensure efficient mill operations while maintaining high product quality and a clean & safe working environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• • Material Handling: Unload, receive, and inspect raw agricultural grains and liquid ingredients from trucks. Perform grain and materials inventory monthly or as needed.  Maintain proper grain storage.
  • Production & Mixing: Set up, operate, and monitor milling, grinding, mixing machinery. Regularly check and perform maintenance of machinery.
  • Machinery Repair: Evaluate and perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs following lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures. Alert supervisor when a qualified contractor is needed for major repairs.
  • Formula Compliance: Measure, weigh, and verify raw ingredients according to strict feed formulas and recipes.
  • Packaging & Staging: Package finished feed into bulk bags or containers, seal properly, apply accurate labels, and stack onto pallets.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyor systems.
  • Quality Control: Perform routine visual inspections of raw materials and finished products to detect contamination or defects.
  • Sanitation & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized work area to control grain dust accumulation and minimize safety hazards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, biosecurity measures, and OSHA guidelines related to heavy equipment operation, dust management, confined space entry, and grain engulfment hazard prevention.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

• • Stamina and Strength: Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and navigate grain silos for extended periods (8–12 hours per shift).
  • Confined Space Entry: Ability to safely enter and work within grain bins/silos, which are classified as confined spaces with engulfment hazards, following required entry procedures and training.
  • Heavy Lifting: Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, and maneuver items weighing between 50 and 100 pounds manually.
  • Work Environment: Comfortable working in dusty, loud environments with varying temperatures (heat, cold, humidity).
  • Protective Gear: Willingness to consistently wear required PPE, including hearing protection, dust/respiratory protection, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and gloves, and to follow all site-specific safety guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

• • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in agricultural production, manufacturing, heavy labor, or warehousing is highly desirable.
  • Basic mathematical proficiency to calculate weights, measurements, and bag counts accurately.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed operational and safety instructions.
  • CDL Class B preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification and any required confined space entry training.
