Position Overview Engine Test Technician – Engine Dyno lab, Dearborn, MI. This role works the midnight shift, 11PM – 7:30AM. Responsibilities Conduct gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer testing, including non‑procedural and durability/performance tests. Support development, durability and performance testing in an engine dynamometer facility. Collect, review and validate data for accuracy and completeness; provide recommendations to engineering. Fabricate basic fixtures as needed. Interface with Technologists, Product Engineers, and Supervisors to update/test procedures, equipment, and methods. Verify calibration and maintenance of test equipment and test systems. Install engines on dynamometer, hook up instrumentation, diagnose and troubleshoot problems, conduct tests, make engine part changes, and remove engine and instrumentation. Minimum Education and Experience High School Diploma. Good interpersonal, computer, oral and written skills. Knowledge of engines and powertrain. Desired: Working toward an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology or related field, or equivalent testing experience in gasoline and diesel engine testing. Experience in engines/powertrain dynamometer testing or other similar testing techniques preferred. Essential Functions and Physical Requirements Unusual or Special Physical Requirements: Lifting: Able to lift 50 lbs; engine parts such as intakes, exhaust parts, heads, drive shafts, and other related items (35%). Special clothing/equipment: safety glasses, slip‑resistant hardened‑toe shoes, gloves, long pants, short‑sleeve shirts (100%). Physical tasks: sitting (50%), standing (50%), bending (25%), stooping (25%). Job requires manual labor. Work environment: high noise level from running engines; exposure to hot temperatures, cold start tests to –20°F (50%). Hazardous conditions: rotating equipment, hot exhaust, trip hazards (100%).
