The University Guest House & Conference Center is seeking a Facilities/Maintenance Technician II to join our Facilities team. As the hotel and conference center on the University of Utah campus, we are committed to providing exceptional guest experiences through safe, reliable, and well-maintained facilities.
This intermediate-level maintenance position performs routine and moderately complex repairs, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of building systems, guest rooms, public spaces, conference facilities, and related equipment throughout spaces managed by the University Guest House & Conference Center. The Facilities/Maintenance Technician II performs basic maintenance and repairs in multiple trade areas, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance, with guidance provided for more complex or specialized work. The successful candidate must be able to prioritize changing operational needs in a hospitality environment, respond promptly to guest-impacting maintenance issues, and consistently provide quality workmanship and customer service. This position is expected to complete routine maintenance and common repairs independently while working with more experienced technicians, supervisors, vendors, or contractors when addressing complex repairs or specialized building systems.
The position regularly collaborates with other maintenance team members and department staff to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and guest-ready. Candidates should be able to work effectively as part of a team while also managing assigned tasks with limited supervision.

One or more years of experience in hotel, hospitality, commercial, healthcare, higher education, or institutional facilities maintenance.
Experience performing basic maintenance and repairs involving HVAC equipment, plumbing fixtures, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, or general building systems.
Experience maintaining hotel guest rooms, public spaces, conference facilities, or similar occupied facilities.
Technical training, certification, or coursework in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building maintenance, or a related trade.
Basic ability to read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment instructions, and technical manuals.
Experience completing preventative maintenance and documenting completed work.
Demonstrated ability to complete routine assignments independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and adapt to changing operational needs.
Ability to recognize maintenance issues that require advanced troubleshooting or specialized repair and seek appropriate guidance.
Possession of a valid Utah driver's license with a good driving record, or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.

- Perform routine and moderately complex maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting in guest rooms, conference facilities, public spaces, and other areas managed by the University Guest House & Conference Center.
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs involving HVAC equipment, plumbing fixtures, electrical systems, doors, locks, lighting, appliances, carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, and other building systems.
- Complete assigned preventative maintenance on guest rooms, building systems, equipment, and facilities according to established schedules and procedures.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and operational issues while working to minimize disruptions to guests, events, and daily operations.
- Inspect facilities, equipment, and building systems to identify maintenance needs, correct routine issues, and report conditions requiring more complex or specialized repairs.
- Complete routine maintenance and common repairs independently, seeking guidance from a supervisor or more experienced technician when work requires advanced troubleshooting or specialized technical knowledge.
- Follow all departmental safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Complete assigned safety inspections and promptly report hazards, unsafe conditions, or equipment concerns requiring corrective action.
- Assist vendors, contractors, and other technicians with access, information, materials, and maintenance activities as assigned.
- Maintain accurate records of completed repairs, materials used, preventative maintenance activities, inspections, and assigned projects.
- Complete assigned maintenance tasks efficiently while providing excellent customer service and communicating professionally with guests, team members, and other department staff.
- Maintain maintenance shops, storage areas, tools, equipment, and shared workspaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Transport supplies, materials, and equipment as needed and safely operate department vehicles and maintenance equipment.
- Assist with room preparation, facility projects, general upkeep, and other maintenance activities as operational needs require.
- Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned.
One or more years of experience in hotel, hospitality, commercial, healthcare, higher education, or institutional facilities maintenance.
Experience performing basic maintenance and repairs involving HVAC equipment, plumbing fixtures, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, or general building systems.
