Med Surg Clinical Nurse Coordinator

Frankfort Regional Medical Center, a leading healthcare provider in Kentucky, is seeking a Med Surg Clinical Nurse Coordinator to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will serve as a clinical leader and working Registered Nurse on our medical-surgical unit, coordinating safe, high-quality patient care while supporting staff and collaborating closely with physicians and the broader care team. Drawing on your strong clinical background, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for a diverse adult population, ensuring evidence-based practice, accurate documentation, and timely communication with patients, families, and providers.

As a Clinical Nurse Coordinator, you will function as a resource and role model on the unit—supporting bedside nurses, assisting with complex or rapidly changing patient conditions, and helping to prioritize and delegate assignments to ensure appropriate staffing and workflow. You will help guide nursing practice, mentor newer nurses, and support a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. You will be expected to respond quickly and effectively to changes in patient status, coordinate care transitions, and work closely with interdisciplinary team members to develop and update individualized care plans.

You will also play an important role in supporting quality and regulatory standards by promoting adherence to hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and best practices in medication administration, documentation, and patient education. Collaboration with leadership on performance improvement initiatives, patient throughput, and patient satisfaction will be a regular part of your work. You may assist with staff education, new hire orientation, and participation in shared governance or unit-based councils to help shape practice on the unit.

The ideal candidate is a clinically strong Registered Nurse with recent acute care experience, preferably in medical-surgical or step-down settings, who is comfortable juggling both direct patient care and coordination responsibilities. Experience in critical care or high-acuity environments is highly valued, as you will often support patients with complex needs and help families navigate a high-stakes, emotionally charged environment. Strong communication, time management, critical thinking, and leadership skills are essential, along with a commitment to compassionate, patient- and family-centered care.
