Overview The Senior Interconnection Specialist will serve as team lead and subject matter expert for residential and small commercial Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnections, driving operational excellence and ensuring a premier customer experience throughout the interconnection lifecycle. Primary Purpose The Sr Interconnection Specialist will provide team leadership and training for the Interconnection Specialists on the DER interconnection team, act as team lead for assigned projects and initiatives, and maintain day‑to‑day operational metrics by efficiently managing customer and developer applications for interconnection. Primary Duties Develop and maintain productive relationships with customers, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure a premier customer experience. Act as primary liaison with complex or escalated DER interconnection projects, providing guidance and resolving issues for applicants. Lead the processing of customer and developer applications for interconnection, ensuring timely and accurate handling of required documentation. Support interconnection initiatives and special projects across all operating companies, including collaboration with external vendors. Leverage relationships with internal stakeholders (Capacity Planning, Project Management, New Business, Net Metering, Billing, etc.) to facilitate efficient workflow. Maintain the integrity of Connect The Grid by addressing backlogged applications and managing system enhancements, testing, and deployment. Interface with Exelon enterprise programs and systems (Asset Suite 8, CIS, GIS) to facilitate application processing and produce status reports. Job Scope The Senior Interconnection Specialist serves as the team lead and SME for residential and small commercial DER interconnections, ensuring compliance with internal performance standards and external regulatory metrics. Key responsibilities include: leading continuous improvement initiatives, quantifying and analyzing DER data for regulatory reporting, operating in a fast‑paced environment, staying current with evolving regulations, and potentially working during emergencies. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of experience, or 6-9 years of relevant business experience if no degree. Minimum 2 years of prior interconnection experience, or 4 years of electric utility experience. Expert knowledge of enterprise programs and systems enabling DER interconnections (Asset Suite 8, GIS, Customer Information Systems). Proven ability to deliver a premier customer experience and to investigate, resolve, and follow up on customer inquiries. Ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships within Exelon and with external stakeholders. Commitment to safety regulations and policies. Successful completion of a 7‑year criminal history background check for felony convictions, if applicable. Preferred Qualifications Expert knowledge of utility distribution grid interconnections, net metering, and renewable energy. Strong knowledge of regulatory policies affecting DER interconnection and net metering compliance. Expertise in identifying trends and metrics to manage workload and recommend best practices. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, Connect The Grid, and data visualization tools (PowerBI). Project management experience; PMP certification is a plus as the role will lead projects and EU initiatives. Benefits Annual salary range: $87,200.00 – $119,900.00 per year.
