The goal of a Systems Safety Engineer at Wisk is to accurately assess risk to inform decision‑making and ensure an appropriate level of safety for autonomous aircraft systems. You will be part of the RAMS team that identifies hazards associated with aircraft functions, ground systems, and items, and develops mitigation strategies to support certification. This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days. In this role, you will work alongside cross‑functional engineering teams to identify, quantify, and mitigate risks associated with aircraft and supporting systems. You will apply both qualitative and quantitative safety assessment methods, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support the development and verification of safety requirements. Responsibilities Act as a Systems Safety Engineer supporting development of a novel autonomous aircraft platform as part of the RAMS organization. Develop and manage the System Safety Plan in alignment with SAE/ARP4754A and SAE/ARP4761 guidelines. Support certification efforts by defining safety targets using regulations such as 14 CFR 23.1309. Coordinate safety activities across engineering teams and monitor design changes impacting system safety. Collaborate with airworthiness authorities and Designated Engineering Representatives to validate safety approaches. Verify implementation of mitigation strategies and provide recommendations and limitations. Help flow down safety and reliability requirements to design, verification, and flight test teams. Qualifications B.S. in engineering with 8–10+ years of experience in systems safety engineering. Experience working in aerospace or safety‑critical system development environments. Strong understanding of safety engineering principles for complex, safety‑critical systems. Experience with ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO‑178C, DO‑254, DO‑160, MIL‑STD‑882, or similar standards. Familiarity with certification frameworks including FAA regulations, TSOs, MOPS, RTCA, and SAE standards. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization. Compensation & Benefits Job Type: Full‑time Pay range the company expects to pay: $167,000 - $208,000 per year. The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job‑related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
