MFG Finance Investment Analyst - PIM Analyst

Description

The Projects Finance Analyst supports the Program Investment Management (PIM) desk within Global Capital Management. This role connects the Global Capital Team’s scorecard process with Manufacturing Engineering (ME) Chiefs, Manufacturing Investment Managers (MIMs), and program teams to improve forecast accuracy, funding execution, and active program checkbook oversight.

The role is designed for a fully qualified finance professional who can operate independently, exercise sound judgment on significant matters, and influence cross-functional partners without direct authority. The analyst will combine financial expertise, business partnership, data and reporting capability, and continuous-improvement leadership to help move PIM toward a more connected, AI-enabled, and forward-looking finance model.

A central focus of the role is enhancing AI-augmented reporting and translating financial data into actionable insight. The analyst will partner with Future of Finance teams to improve standardized reporting, strengthen forecast accuracy, and help embed new planning, reporting, and analytics capabilities into day-to-day manufacturing investment management.

Key Responsibilities

Program Investment Management and Forecasting

Lead monthly forecast reviews with management, MIMs, ME Chiefs, and program teams.

Reconcile program forecasts to Global Capital Team scorecard expectations and independently identify material variances, risks, trends, and required actions.

Improve forecast accuracy by challenging assumptions, analyzing historical performance, evaluating forecast-to-actual results, and partnering with engineering and program owners on corrective actions.

Maintain visibility to program forecasts, funding requirements, and management checkbook activity across CAPEX and OPS.

Translate complex financial information into clear recommendations for management and program stakeholders.

Anticipate forecast and funding risks and drive issues through resolution with limited supervision.

Funding Execution and Business Partnership

Coordinate and execute approved funding movements on behalf of program teams.

Support funding-release execution following approval requests, including coordination with Global Business Services (GBS).

Partner with Manufacturing, Global Capital Management, engineering, program teams, and finance leadership to ensure funding decisions are accurately reflected and executed on schedule.

Facilitate cross-functional meetings, clarify roles and actions, and use persuasion and data to align stakeholders with differing priorities.

Serve as a subject-matter resource for less-experienced analysts and share effective forecasting, reporting, and checkbook-management practices.

AI-Enabled Reporting and Forecast Accuracy

Own the continuous improvement of AI-augmented reporting for PIM and manufacturing investment activity.

Develop and enhance standardized reporting that provides clear visibility to forecast accuracy, forecast-to-actual performance, cycle-over-cycle changes, funding requirements, and key forecast drivers.

Use AI, automation, and advanced analytics to identify anomalies, surface meaningful trends, prioritize variances, and reduce manual reporting effort.

Establish clear validation practices for AI-generated insights, including review of source data, forecast versions, assumptions, and business context before information is used in management decisions.

Build reporting views that enable drill-down from management-level results to the program, account, or driver level where appropriate.

Partner with program and engineering teams to convert AI-generated insights into actions that improve forecast assumptions, timing, and accuracy.

Track recurring forecast issues and use root-cause analysis to recommend process, data, or system improvements.

Measure the effectiveness of reporting enhancements through adoption, cycle-time reduction, data quality, and improved forecast accuracy.

Future of Finance Partnership

Partner with Future of Finance teams supporting OneStream, Finance360, and related planning, reporting, data, and AI capabilities.

Translate PIM and manufacturing stakeholder needs into clear business requirements, reporting enhancements, data-quality priorities, and user stories.

Participate in design reviews, testing, user acceptance, implementation, and adoption activities for future-state forecasting and reporting solutions.

Help migrate the organization from fragmented, manually assembled reporting toward standardized, governed, on-glass reporting and connected planning processes.

Provide practical feedback from PIM users to improve Finance360 reporting, AI insights, scenario analysis, and forecast workflows.

Promote responsible use of AI by combining automated insight generation with finance judgment, business validation, and appropriate governance.

Identify opportunities to simplify processes, eliminate duplicate reporting, reduce manual handoffs, and improve the end-to-end experience for finance and program partners.

The successful candidate will:

Demonstrate complete knowledge of PIM responsibilities and broad knowledge of related finance, manufacturing, engineering, planning, and capital-management processes.

Work independently with general management guidance and exercise discretion on significant matters.

Address complex, non-standard problems with multiple stakeholders, dependencies, timelines, and competing priorities.

Develop and deliver solutions that improve operational efficiency, forecast accuracy, reporting quality, and management decision support.

Own initiatives from problem definition through implementation, adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement.

Influence senior internal partners and cross-functional stakeholders, including those who may not be familiar with the subject matter.

Use data, analysis, and financial storytelling to demonstrate the value of recommendations and anticipate objections.

Create measurable impact across the immediate organization and broader finance or manufacturing function.

Act as a resource and mentor to less-experienced team members.

Lead by example through accountability, curiosity, collaboration, openness to feedback, and a bias toward practical solutions.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field.

5 + years of related experience in finance.

Proven experience in financial modeling, investment analysis, and valuation techniques.

Strong data mining and data modeling skills, with experience using relevant software and tools.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly, concisely, and confidently to a broad range of stakeholders.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent ad hoc and time-sensitive requests.

Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain strong attention to detail in a role with significant ownership and visibility.

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable recommendations from both a process improvement and investment decision-making perspective.

Continuous improvement mindset with a willingness to innovate, challenge existing processes, and bring forward bold, practical ideas.

Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn the business, especially manufacturing operations, in order to strengthen financial partnership and decision support.

Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and influence partners through credibility and insight.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Experience

Experience in manufacturing finance, engineering finance, capital planning, program finance, investment management, or financial planning and analysis.

Experience with enterprise forecasting, scorecards, forecast-to-actual analysis, funding approvals, or management checkbook oversight.

Experience with OneStream, Finance360, Power BI, or similar planning, reporting, and analytics platforms.

Experience implementing reporting automation, AI-enabled insights, driver-based forecasting, scenario analysis, or data-quality improvements.

Experience participating in finance transformation, system implementation, user acceptance testing, or process redesign.

Experience coaching or mentoring analysts and leading cross-functional improvement initiatives.

Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the - Global HQ Warren MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
