Clinical Nurse Educator

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Nurse Educator to join our team at a hospital in Hermiston, Oregon. This vital role focuses on providing comprehensive education and instruction to clinical staff, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and professional development.

The Clinical Nurse Educator acts as a key resource for healthcare education and training programs, introducing technical and theoretical concepts through various teaching techniques, including advanced simulation training with mannequins and specialized software. This position collaborates closely with department managers, clinical nurse coordinators, and the Quality Management team to identify educational opportunities, support curriculum development, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the system.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs and training initiatives for clinical staff.
• Provide instruction on technical and theoretical healthcare concepts, adapting teaching methods to diverse learning styles.
• Serve as a primary resource and subject matter expert for staff regarding healthcare education and training programs.
• Collaborate with department managers and clinical nurse coordinators to support and enhance educational development.
• Utilize and become proficient in simulation training techniques, including the use of mannequins and simulation software.
• Partner with the Quality Management team to identify educational needs, promote continuous improvement, and assist with Quality Department activities.
• Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively, adapting to changing demands without compromising efficiency.
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality and uphold the hospital's mission, vision, and values.
• Participate in all required DNV program education as applicable to the position.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). (Consideration may be given for candidates with extensive experience and national certifications, with a commitment to obtain a BSN within 3 years of hire, subject to Vice President of Nursing approval).
• Minimum of 5 years of hospital nursing experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing and internet use.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
• Experience in teaching, course development, and evaluating learning processes.
• Familiarity with teaching theories and learning models.
• Experience working with or teaching utilizing simulation mannequins and software.
• Previous experience as a clinical staff educator.
• Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Skills & Competencies

• Clinical Skills: Understanding of age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial patient care principles.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel). Basic understanding of computer network functions. Accurate typing speed of 45 WPM.
• Equipment Proficiency: Experience with simulation mannequins and software, fax machines, and copiers.
• Communication & Interpersonal: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading. Exceptional telephone etiquette and customer service skills. Ability to convey empathy and compassion.
• Organizational & Leadership: Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and re-prioritize duties effectively. Ability to work independently and take responsibility for planning and direction. Skill in writing clear and measurable educational objectives.
