Assistant Stylist

The Assistant Stylist is responsible for engaging with guests, consulting with them on their hair care needs, and recommending products and services. The role is a temporary position intended to prepare talent for a full stylist position with an emphasis on the guest’s total look. The Assistant Stylist will be mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist for the first three months and will focus on performance, people, and process. After month four, the assistant will begin servicing guests independently. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Performance Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink. Support the mentor stylist in meeting sales and productivity goals for hair services and haircare products, including add‑on recommendations, shampoo and treatment processes, blowouts, color applications, foils, cleaning/sanitation, pre‑booking, and retail recommendations. After month three, perform hair services such as hair design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing (where applicable). Perform product demonstrations to drive sales. Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives. Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests. Maintain prompt, regular attendance. People Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate recommendations. Serve all guests in a timely and efficient manner under mentorship. Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a total‑store experience. Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners. Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app. Process Be knowledgeable of and comply with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures. Follow established service protocols for a consistent guest experience. Utilize appropriate booking and clientele systems. Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager. Maintain store operational standards. Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for professional development. Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code. Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices. Execute other operational tasks as directed. Job Qualifications Education Cosmetology license. Skills Basic understanding of current salon techniques across all service categories. Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals needed for technical work. Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products. Developed communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele. Special Position Requirements Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Working Conditions Frequent mobility during shift. Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting. Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. during shift. Ability to stand for long periods of time during shift. Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift. Frequent use of computers, telephonic devices, and related supplies. The pay range for this position is $18.00 per hour. Salary may vary based on experience, qualifications, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law and tips paid by service guests.
