We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join a growing accounting team in Maryland. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys working across core accounting activities, from close support to reporting and reconciliations, in a busy and collaborative environment. The role offers broad exposure to day-to-day accounting operations while creating a path toward long-term employment based on performance and business needs.

Responsibilities:
• Record and post journal entries accurately while keeping the general ledger current and well organized.
• Complete recurring bank, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations to confirm accuracy and resolve variances promptly.
• Contribute to month-end and year-end close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing account activity, and supporting timely completion of deliverables.
• Examine financial information to identify inconsistencies, research discrepancies, and recommend appropriate corrections.
• Provide accounting support for accounts payable and accounts receivable processes when additional coverage or assistance is needed.
• Prepare audit-ready documentation and supporting schedules for internal reviews and external audit requests.
• Maintain fixed asset details, track additions and disposals, and update depreciation records accordingly.
• Assist with the preparation of financial reports and respond to management requests for accounting data and analysis.
• Follow established accounting policies and internal control standards while partnering with cross-functional teams to support business objectives.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes.
• Hands-on experience supporting month-end and year-end close procedures.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including functions such as pivot tables and VLOOKUP for data review and analysis.
• Experience with Sage 300 is preferred.
• Solid analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills in a fast-paced, detail-focused setting.
