Title: Regulatory Analyst Hiring Range: $60,000 to $70,000 - Commensurate with experience Pay Band: UG Agency: Office of the Governor Location: Patrick Henry Building Agency Website: Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties Governor Abigail Spanberger is seeking an organized, driven, collaborative, and hard-working team player to serve as the Regulatory Analyst in the Office of the Governor. This position offers a unique opportunity to help advance implementation of the Governor’s policy agenda and improve the well-being and safety of Virginians through regulatory oversight. The Regulatory Analyst will report directly to the Regulatory Director and will work closely with the Governor’s policy and legislative teams. This is a full-time, in-person, appointee position based in Richmond, Virginia. Job Responsibilities Track and monitor regulatory actions from across state agencies. Review and analyze proposed regulations for readability, best interest of public welfare, and alignment with the Governor’s priorities. Prepare policy memos summarizing regulatory actions and making thoughtful recommendations for action on regulations. Help facilitate communications between the Governor’s Office, secretariats, and state agencies on regulatory actions. Review proposed and recently passed legislation to assess impact on regulations. Conduct research on relevant regulatory, policy, and legislative topics. Monitor state and federal regulatory, policy, and legislative developments. Collaborate and build relationships with secretariats, state agencies, and members of the Governor’s legislative, communications, and constituent services teams. Identify opportunities for regulatory review process improvements. Minimum Qualifications At least 2-4 years of relevant professional experience in public policy, government, law, advocacy, or related field. Detail-oriented, with excellent project management and organizational skills. Strong analytical, research, writing, and editing skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to build consensus. Strong communications skills, including an ability to effectively translate complex issues into clear and concise information, both verbally and in writing. Ability to proactively manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Demonstrate judgement, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive matters. Eagerness to learn about the regulatory process in Virginia and different policy topic areas. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in federal or state government. Experience analyzing laws and regulations. Familiarity with Virginia state government and the Virginia regulatory process.
