Mental Health Counselor - General Pediatrics, Albany

Department/Unit Pediatrics General Work Shift Day (United States of America) Salary Range $71,612.39 - $110,999.20 This Behavioral Health Counselor will function as a mid-level provider in the HealthySteps role. The provider is responsible for mental health assessments and psychotherapy for an active caseload of children, adolescents, and families with developmental, psychological and behavioral health concerns. The provider must possess knowledge of a variety of psychological theories and demonstrate skill with the provision of various treatment modalities including Individual, group and family treatment. The position functions as an independent and self‑directed practitioner and an active member of the Interdisciplinary team. The clinician will also provide formal and informal teaching to Pediatric Residents, Psychology Interns, and other staff. HealthySteps is an evidence‑based, interdisciplinary pediatric primary care program that promotes the health, well‑being and school readiness of babies and toddlers, with an emphasis on families living in low‑income communities. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Conduct and document behavioral health evaluations including developmental, academic, and mental health history of child or adolescent presenting for treatment. Provide urgent crisis intervention as needed and ongoing psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and their families through individual and group modalities using a wide range of psychological theories. Function as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team assisting with the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the practice. Assist patients and their families with accessing necessary community resources and supports. Interface with schools, other community agencies and service providers to ensure appropriate behavioral health care is provided. Responsible for timely completion of all annual mandatory educational requirements for this position. Fulfill all requirements of the Competency Based Orientation and ongoing evaluation tools regarding the standard requirements for behavioral health staff. Participate in other duties and job functions as assigned by the Division or supervisor. Qualifications Master's Degree in counseling, psychology or social work – required. 4–6 years of conducting therapy with children, adolescents and families in a clinical setting – required. Must have an education base in childhood development with understanding of complex developmental and behavioral concerns. Must be able to work with complex family systems to achieve desired therapeutic outcomes. Must be able to work collaboratively with a team of professionals to evaluate and treat children and adolescents. Must demonstrate professionalism in appearance and presentation, excellent written and oral communication skills, and complete work responsibilities in a timely manner. Use of the computer and other technical equipment is required to complete job expectations. LMHC‑Licensed Mental Health Counselor upon hire – required. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
