Staff Nurse NICU

Position Critical Care NICU at Main Campus Quarterback Tower Shift & Schedule Full‑time Evening Night Shift, Monday‑Sunday (12‑hour shifts) Summary The staff nurse is a professional nurse who, with minimal supervision, is responsible for providing nursing care to patients. Patient care includes assessment, interventions, and reassessments. The nurse also plans, implements, educates, and evaluates care of patients and caregivers. Responsibilities Assess patients, intervene, and reassess as needed. Plan, implement, educate, and evaluate nursing care. Use medical equipment, patient records, reports, and computer systems. Perform other duties as assigned. Manage infants requiring mechanical ventilation, IV fluid and drug administration, monitoring cardiovascular status, and supporting families. Maintain a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 2:1, rising to 1:1 for higher acuity patients. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, pharmacists, therapists, lactation specialists, child life, social workers, and pastoral care. Education Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Associate of Science Nursing in Nursing (equivalent). Experience & Credentials Current RN license in the State of Alabama. Current BLS certification. Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications: Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State Registered Nurse Non‑AL NLC Multi State Basic Life Support Unit Details The NICU is a Level IV 48‑bed unit caring for acute and chronic patients from birth to 2 years of age. It includes 4 ECMO surgical suites and has been awarded a Center for Excellence for multiple years. The unit also cares for infants on continuous dialysis therapy (Aquadex) and offers other specialized programs. All rooms are private, allowing parents to stay overnight if desired. The unit manages diagnoses including respiratory illnesses, abdominal wall defects, neural tube defects, renal tube defects, congenital anomalies, and many other illnesses.
