Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week) Base Hourly: $21.01 Class/Calendar: B22, 12 months Benefits: Vacation, sick leave, holidays, retirement matched through the Arizona State Retirement System, health, and life insurance Performance Pay: Available annually New Hire Experience: 1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum New Hire Education: 1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position Job Summary: To maintain cafeteria equipment and repair and/or replacement needs; to provide necessary information on the proper use of equipment; and to ensure adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner Written Test required for this position - Application is considered incomplete and will not be eligible for consideration if test results are not on file with Human Resources by closing date. The Written Test will be administered at the time of interview Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Transportation. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment. Key Responsibilities: Working from a written work order, travel throughout assigned area of the district to perform preventive maintenance Troubleshoot and repair tasks on all types and styles of cafeteria equipment and related devices in a competent and timely manners Communicate with school site-based personnel to keep them properly informed of equipment status Communicate with immediate supervisor to keep them informed of a work order status Keep service vehicle clean, orderly and properly stocked Process assigned paperwork in a timely manner Regular and on-time attendance required Assist in keeping the HVAC shop clean Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools Required Qualifications: High School education or equivalent Valid, or ability to obtain, Arizona driver’s license Minimum three years journey mechanic training or equivalent work experience with cafeteria equipment Preferred Qualifications: Related trade school training helpful Skills & Competencies: Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships Ability to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work non-regular hours (weekends, night shift, swing shift, holidays) Working knowledge of tools, materials, methods and safe working practices of the trade Ability to plan and organize work in a safe and productive environment Ability to understand and willingness to perform preventive maintenance duties Ability to lift up to 100 pounds; to work from a height of up to 35 feet on personal lifts; to climb ladders up to 30 feet to access rooftop equipment; willingness to work alone when necessary Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Primarily in school kitchens and cafeterias, possibly across multiple schools within a district Regular collaboration with kitchen staff, custodians, and maintenance personnel Often requires movement between indoor and outdoor areas when transporting equipment or accessing external units (e.g., HVAC or refrigeration) Frequent walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting to access equipment Crawling under counters or into tight spaces to reach appliances.
