Make a difference in the lives of students by delivering specialized instruction and support as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. This full-time, contract opportunity focuses on serving a caseload of 24 students near Chicago, IL, providing essential educational services to help each learner realize their full potential. The workday runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, offering both structure and the chance to foster meaningful progress for students with visual impairments.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certified Teacher for the Visually Impaired, with relevant state teaching credentials
- Experience working with visually impaired children, preferably in a school setting
- Knowledge of adaptive technologies and Braille instruction
- Strong collaboration skills to work with classroom teachers, families, and support staff
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction to students with visual impairments, using tailored strategies and resources
- Adapt curricula and learning materials to ensure accessibility
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Provide training and consultation to school staff regarding vision-related needs and accommodations
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including occupational and speech therapists as needed
- Maintain thorough documentation and participate in meetings regarding student supports
