These objects could be of tremendous educational value, not just to COCC Geology students but also to our larger community. For example, K-12 educators frequently contact our Geology department looking for educational resources like rocks / minerals / fossils. However, the collection is poorly organized, and therefore difficult to use. It can take hours just to find a handful of rocks for a useful rock kit. The end result is that most of rockin’ collection never sees the light of day. Sad! Essential Duties and Responsibilities Student will organize rocks, minerals and fossils in the COCC Geology department collection, creating a labeled and accessible rock library. Many rocks / minerals / fossils currently lack labels, so the student will also have to correctly identify common rocks, minerals and fossils. Department Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies. Ability to accurately identify rocks and minerals Ability to work without supervision Ability to ask for help when necessary! Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds. Ergonomic Requirements Student must be able to lift heavy rocks (up to 25 lbs) from and onto shelves.
