Legal Counsel Position

The Beck Group seeks to add a skilled attorney to our in-house legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel and working closely with the legal team, you will provide legal support to our project teams nationwide. This position partners closely with Construction, Architecture, and Design-Build project teams throughout the full lifecycle of each project. As a member of a small legal team supporting a large organization, this role offers an exciting opportunity to quickly become an instrumental contributor to the success of individual projects and the company overall.

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide legal support to construction and architecture project teams throughout the full project lifecycle - from RFP through closeout - helping projects continue to move toward completion while identifying and managing legal and business risk. Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

Essential functions include:

• Review, edit, and negotiate construction, architecture, and design-build contracts.
• Review, edit, and negotiate agreements with subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and clients, including, for example, subcontracts, purchase orders, NDAs, software agreements, lender consents, and leases.
• Provide legal support to Human Resources, other corporate services, and Beck's regional and corporate leadership.
• Field questions from project teams, analyze risk, help teams think through issues, and map out a course forward that mitigates risk, limits liability, and otherwise promotes and protects Beck's interests.
• Work closely with the Risk department to navigate insurance claims and coverage matters.
• Work with AI platforms and other technologies to enhance output and create efficiencies.

The right candidate will be able to skillfully manage their time, stay organized, and exercise sound judgment across competing priorities. They will also be comfortable being pulled in multiple directions at once, effectively managing the expectations of requesting parties while consistently delivering high-quality legal support in a timely manner.

Qualifications include:

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• A minimum of seven years practicing law, including at least three years in construction law or a related area. Preferred qualifications include:
• Transactional and litigation practice.
• Experience in both law firm and in-house settings.
• Knowledge of insurance policies common to the construction and architecture industries.
• Licensed to practice law in any U.S. state, with the expectation of becoming licensed in Texas.
• Affinity for contract review, drafting, and negotiation, with the legal knowledge and judgment to independently manage matters from start to finish, with support available as needed.
• Proficiency with computers and commonly used software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Physical demands include:

Frequently required to sit, stand, and move about the office and occasionally visit project sites; frequently operates a computer and other office productivity equipment; communicates with Beck personnel, outside counsel, opposing counsel, subcontractors, vendors, and others; ability to adhere to timely and consistent attendance; some travel required, typically to Beck regional offices.
