JOB DUTIES

The Staff Physician acts as lead for Patient Care Team. Assists the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Executive Officer in the development of specific action plans for the timely provision of services and programs designed to meet the medical and psychological needs of the community. Assists in the development of communications and linkages with surrounding medical professionals, organizations and institutions. Utilizes an Electronic Health Record system appropriate to the needs of GHMS. Assists the CMO/CEO in the training of Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Medical Assistants and students (nursing and medical) for optimal efficiency of delivery of services at GHMS. Assists the CMO/CEO in developing medical care organization policies and procedures for GHMS. Assists in developing a medical audit system applicable to all professional personnel at GHMS. The Staff Physician shares in the responsibility of 24 hour "on-call" coverage with other GHMS health care providers (i.e. other physicians or mid-levels). It is expected that all physicians are available 24 hours a day unless they are out of town and have made arrangements for coverage. "On-Call" coverage means they also share in the responsibility of receiving calls from the answering service and hospital on a rotating basis with other GHMS health care providers. Physician has staff privileges at Northside Forsyth Hospital (or other hospitals) and performs all duties and obligations this entails (conferences, committee, etc.). Obtains health history and performs physical examinations. Diagnoses and directs counseling for each patient on a plan for treatment. Prescribes medication in accordance with Georgia statute and professional practice guidelines. Perform minor surgical procedures. Arranges referrals for patients requiring services not offered by GHMS. Reviews incoming reports (e.g., lab, x-ray, EKG) signs, dates and follows up in a timely manner. Complies with GHMS Infection Control plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions. Participates in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings. Participates on Patient-Centered Medical Home team activities and all other quality initiatives. Assists in updating protocols and principles of the practice as requested. The Staff Physician adheres to all GHMS Clinical Policies and Procedures that are reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors, i.e. locking charts; evidence based standards, etc. and complies with Practice Standards and Practice Certification requirements (PCMH, etc.) Adheres to productivity standards and meets at least the minimum requirements. Supervises students in training at GHMS as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer. Supervises mid-level practitioners (Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners). The Staff Physician practices medicine to the full extent that his/her training permits. The Staff Physician follows Corporate, Ethical, and HIPAA policies and procedures to ensure the confidentiality of all patient information

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Graduate of a medical school and an accredited residency training program, level appropriate for a family physician and licensed to practice medicine in the State of Georgia. The CMO/CEO must be satisfied that the physician possesses a specific interest in primary care and community Demonstrated knowledge of the public health system and its principles and practices.
