Responsibilities Gregory Helfrich & Associates, insurance staff counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking a Trial Attorney to join the Summit, New Jersey Claim Litigation office. The role involves case ownership, participating in litigation events, and meeting with clients. Attorneys work in a collaborative environment with support staff while maintaining ownership of their files. As a non‑hourly billed position, attorneys strategize on trial and case development throughout litigation. The position is classified as a hybrid role, requiring time in the office and possibly virtual work. LOCATION: 180 River Road, Summit, NJ 07901 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Handle litigation and other legal assignments in accordance with guidelines established by the Law Department Prepare and summarize reports for proceedings Develop trial strategy and case development Attend litigation events including trials, mediations, depositions, and hearings Qualifications Previous experience required. 2+ years litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense, personal injury, or medical malpractice Trial experience preferred, but not required Key skills required: Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and substantive law commensurate with level of experience Experience with trial, mediation, and deposition File ownership Effective written and oral communication skills Technology/software experience required: Ability to work efficiently with cases in electronic form Working knowledge of a Case Management system Working knowledge of a Document Storage system Education and licensing: J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school with excellent academic credentials Active law license to practice in New Jersey and good standing with the State Bar of New Jersey Additional Details Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. immediately; State Farm will not sponsor work visas. Outside legal practice is prohibited; attorneys must cease all outside practice before joining State Farm. Travel via personal or commercial transportation for job‑related activities is an essential function. Irregular hours may be required. Benefits Potential starting salary range: $133,750 – $177,500. Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience; the high end of the range is limited to applicants with significant relevant experience.
