Substitute Nurse

The role of the school nurse is to advance the well being, and overall health of students, faculty, and staff. The school nurse is responsible to identify actual or potential health problems and collaborate with administrators, educators, students and families to ensure that a student develops normally.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides health care to students, faculty and staff.
• Maintains student medical records, seeing that parents/guardians have proper medical forms submitted to school, and assists with referrals as needed.
• Monitors immunizations and communicable diseases.
• Oversees infection control and assesses the environment to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.
• Receives daily illness calls and daily attendance reports from homeroom teachers.
• Phones parents of absent students who have not informed the teacher or school by 11:00 AM as requested.
• Updates attendance records.
• Oversees medication administration, anaphylaxis and confidential list & health care plans.
• Performs vision, hearing and scoliosis screening.
• Maintains emergency cards and PPD records of faculty and staff.
• Maintains the schools AED's.
• Serves as a medical consultant with other school professionals, such as physical education teachers, coaches, plant staff and psychologist.
• Provides health-related education to students and staff.

Qualifications:

• Profile: Basic computer knowledge
• 1 year minimum clinical nursing experience
• School nursing experience is preferred but not necessary.
• License or Certificate: R.N. License
• Current certification for CPR & AED
