Specialty Sports Coordinator

Job Title

Part Time: 10 Hrs/Week To organize, maintain and direct all aspects in specialty sports camps and summer leagues.

Duties of Responsibilities

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Organize, coordinate and supervise summer sports camps such as Basketball, Volleyball, baseball/softball etc.
• Organize, coordinate and supervise weekend sports leagues
• Organize, coordinate and supervise adult specialty leagues such as kickball, dodgeball, pickleball, etc.
• Field and equipment set-up for each sport
• To be the representative for the Kenner Parks and Recreation Department for the interpretation of the rules and regulations.
• To be responsible to handle issues as they arise and report them to Kenner Parks and Recreation Department.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - HOURS WORKED: Will be required to work at assigned playground location. Indoor/outdoor locations possible. Work hours will be determined by the schedule set for the leagues and sports camps by the Kenner Parks and Recreation Department. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: This individual must be able to read and to be able to comprehend directions from the Leisure Service Manager, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director, and Parks and Recreation Director concerning various rules and regulations set forth by the Kenner Parks and Recreation Department. Must be able to act as a mediator and supervisor if issues occur. EQUIPMENT USED: All athletic program equipment and supplies needed to coordinate the athletic programs. PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT: Standing, bending and moving constantly during league coordinating and must be able to lift 50 lbs. MENTAL INVOLVEMENT: Must be able to communicate in English both orally and in writing. Must be able to comprehend verbal or written direction and instructions from the Leisure Service Manager, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director, and Parks and Recreation Director. HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT: To be able to monitor and respond in a responsible manner in various situations and to maintain an objective attitude, tact and discretion under these conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications : Must be age 21 or older. Experience in an athletic leadership role and general knowledge in various sports.

Desirable Qualifications : 3 years direct experience in coordinating sports for schools, playgrounds or other athletics programs.

Coverage is effective the first of the following month, following full-time employment. Dependent coverage is also available. LIFE INSURANCE : All full-time employees are insured under a Group Life Insurance policy through Prudential Life Insurance Company. The coverage is one and half times the employee's salary, up to $300,000. The policy also provides a Basic Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit. The premium cost is covered by the City of Kenner. Coverage is effective the first of the following month, following full time employment. RETIREMENT SYSTEM : The City of Kenner's regular full time employees are enrolled with the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Louisiana. Both the City of Kenner and the employee contribute the required percent to the system. The employee's contributions are kept on account and will be refunded, if the employees leaves employment before they are retirement eligible. DEFERRED COMPENSATION : The City of Kenner currently participates in a 457 Plan with MassMutual. This is a voluntary investment program that the employees are allowed to participate in at a contribution rate of their choice (must be within the designated maximum and minimum limits, as set for by Plan Document). The City of Kenner does not contribute to the 457 Plan. HOLIDAYS : Sixteen paid official holidays are observed, plus any other holidays which may be declared by the Mayor. ANNUAL AND SICK LEAVE : Eligible Kenner employees earn annual leave and sick leave. Accrual of hours will increase based on the number of years of service. WORKING TEST PERIOD : Upon appointment to a position in the classified service, the employee shall serve a working test period of six (6) months, unless extended. EAP : The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a program which provides a professional to help employees and their families to resolve problems. This service is 24 hrs. / 7 days per week, voluntary participation and confidential.
