SHIPPING & RECEIVING SPECIALIST

Position Type: Temp to Hire


Position Hours: 1st Shift, 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday-Friday

Position Location : Cleveland, Ohio

Position Salary: $20.00 - $22.00/hour

Primary Purpose of the Job:

The Shipping and Receiving Specialist is responsible for managing the accurate and efficient movement of incoming and outgoing materials within the organization. This role performs both clerical and physical tasks to ensure that shipments are properly received, packed, shipped, documented, stored, and distributed while maintaining compliance with company procedures and safety standards. The specialist works closely with purchasing, production, sales, and the shipping coordinator to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.

Essential Duties:

Receiving Operations

• Greet drivers and walk-in customers and provide excellent customer service.
• Receive and inspect incoming shipments for quality, accuracy, damage, and compliance with purchase order.
• Verify quantities, part numbers, serial numbers and documentation before accepting deliveries.
• Record receipt of goods in purchasing system.
• Label, store, and route materials to appropriate departments/storage locations.
• Coordinate with purchasing and vendors to resolve discrepancies or damaged shipments.
• Process returns from customers.
• Update and maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) book/computer files.

Shipping Operations

• Review and analyze sales orders for accuracy/applicability.
• Pull parts orders - keeping an eye on stock/inventory.
• Notify appropriate personnel of low or concerning stock levels and requisition inventory as necessary.
• Prepare both package and freight outbound shipments including building custom skids, packaging/crating,
• recording weight and dimensions and applying shipping labels.
• Documentation control - ensure proper manuals, wiring diagrams, instruction sheets, SDS, certificates of
• conformance, and test results accompany incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Coordinate with shipping coordinator to schedule pickups with freight carriers and parcel services.
• Ensure shipments comply with domestic and international shipping regulations when applicable.
• Transport materials to/from local customers and/or vendors in company owned truck when needed.

Operational Support

• Operate forklift, pallet jacks, and/or other equipment to move, load, and store shipments.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving and shipping area.
• Maintain inventory levels of all shipping related materials.
• Perform routine machine, equipment, and facility maintenance.
• Light assembly/machining, as assigned.
• Assist with periodic inventory audits and reconciliation activities.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of materials to prevent damage or loss.
• Communicate with the management team and internal departments any barriers that are, and that could
• potentially hinder or stop the flow of shipping process.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to shipping efficiency and accuracy.
• Document time and material for packaging.
• Follow all safety policies and OSHA guidelines.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Ability to learn job-related material through oral instruction and observation.
• Ability to safely operate forklift.
• Ability to accurately read measuring instruments (i.e. tape measures, scales, etc.)
• Strong carpentry skills and the ability to use basic hand and/or power tools.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
• Strong work ethic - ability to report on time for all scheduled workdays/shifts.
• 1-2 years shipping and receiving experience preferred.
• 1 year of forklift/powered industrial truck experience (forklift certification is a plus, but not required).

Education:

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic reading, writing, and mathematical (weights, measurements, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction)
• skills are required.
• Basic computer knowledge required. (i.e. email, MS Word, and MS Excel)
• Must be able to understand/speak/read/write English.

Working Conditions:

• Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Machine and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: steel toed-footwear, eye safety glasses, and hearing protectors. Position includes the ability to:
• Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
• Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time.
• Lift objects up to (75) pounds.
