Account Specialist

About the Position

West Penn Energy Services is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our accounting team. This position supports a variety of accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, account reconciliations, credit card processing, payroll and billing support, and general accounting activities.

The Accounting Specialist will work closely with the accounting and operations teams to ensure transactions and supporting documentation are accurate, complete, and properly recorded. This role will also provide cross-training and backup support for Accounts Payable and Billing to help maintain consistent department coverage and workflow.

What You'll Do

Accounts Payable

• Review, code, and route Accounts Payable transactions for approval and processing.
• Verify transactions for accuracy, appropriate coding, supporting documentation, and compliance with company procedures.
• Assist with Accounts Payable questions, follow-ups, and issue resolution.
• Provide backup support for Accounts Payable functions as needed.

Account Reconciliations

• Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts to invoices, statements, supporting records, and other documentation.
• Research and resolve discrepancies between the general ledger and supporting information.
• Maintain organized documentation for completed reconciliations.
• Identify recurring discrepancies or process issues and communicate findings to management.

Credit Card Accounting

• Enter and review credit card transactions and ensure proper account coding.
• Reconcile credit card statements to recorded transactions and supporting documentation.
• Research discrepancies and follow up to obtain missing information.
• Ensure transactions are recorded accurately in the appropriate accounts and reporting periods.

Payroll & Billing Support

• Gather and review timecard information used for payroll and billing.
• Verify timecards for completeness, accuracy, appropriate coding, and supporting information.
• Process approved timecard information through the appropriate payroll and billing procedures.
• Work with managers and operations personnel to resolve missing or inaccurate timecard information.
• Assist with billing functions and provide backup coverage when needed.

Team & Department Support

• Cross-train in Accounts Payable and Billing to provide coverage during absences and periods of increased workload.
• Develop an understanding of related accounting processes and how they connect to the overall accounting cycle.
• Assist with process improvements, documentation, and implementation of more efficient procedures.
• Support other accounting projects and responsibilities as assigned.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in accounting, bookkeeping, Accounts Payable, or a related field preferred.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and unusual transactions.
• Working knowledge of general accounting principles and the ability to follow established procedures.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Good communication and follow-up skills.
• Ability to work effectively with accounting, operations, management, and other departments.
• Willingness to learn multiple accounting functions and provide cross-functional support.
