Deputy Executive Director

8:00 A.M - 4:00 P.M (35 hours/week, Monday- Friday)

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position:

Serves as Deputy to the Executive Director and assumes full responsibility and authority in areas delegated. May direct a group of services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serves as Executive Director in the latter's absence.
2. Participates in the planning, development and promulgation of programs, policies and procedures, and evaluative and monitoring techniques designed to implement the policies and achieve the goals established by the governing body and the President.
3. Supervises the implementation of programs and policies concerning health care setting operations and assists in coordinating activities between health care setting staff and Officers.
4. May direct a compliance program for the health care setting in meeting standards established by inspecting and accreditation agencies involving delivery of health care services.
5. Participates in the establishment of formal systems of financial procedures, qualifications for employment and retention of competent personnel, employee health programs and general administrative support services.
6. Assists in the development and monitoring activities of the annual budget.
7. Recommends purchase of supplies and equipment for the health care setting consistent with policies governing purchase procedures.
8. Recommends construction and alteration programs, including acquisition and replacement of health care setting equipment.
9. Schedules, and conducts and/or participates in regular inter-departmental and departmental meetings. May designate hospital departmental representatives for medical staff and multi-disciplinary committees to facilitate effective communication lines within the health care setting.
10. Assists the Executive Director in maintaining cooperative relationships with the community, professional groups, external agencies and regulatory bodies.
11. Participates in the development, maintenance and implementation of a health care setting management reporting system that provides adequate and timely data for program planning and evaluation purposes.
12. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Hospital Health Care, Medical Administration or a related program, and six (6) years of full-time experience in high-level responsible business administration, administration, public administration or an equivalent area, or as an Assistant Hospital Administrator in a position of direct responsibility for total operations or major parts thereof in a hospital setting including substantial exposure in meeting community needs; or
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in "1" above; and eight (8)years of high-level experience in areas as described in "1" above.

Department Preferences

This role provides strategic leadership and oversight of the organization's functions, with direct accountability for strategic planning, hospital marketing, internal and external communication, governmental relations, external affairs, grants, hospital throughput, space management through master planning, and community alignment. Plays a critical role in master planning and execution, overseeing a centralized Office of Project Management that coordinates and aligns all facility priorities, supports departmental evolution and needs, and drives smooth implementation of organizational goals. Exercises both direct and indirect leadership over assigned departments, ensuring organizational efficiency to meet programmatic needs and goals while upholding alignment with NYC Health + Hospitals' mission, public mandate, and population health priorities. Prior executive strategic experience is strongly preferred.
