Clinical Nurse Coordinator, Operating Room

Job Summary Primarily focuses on assuring the provision of effective, high quality patient care encompassing multiple responsibilities, including: management of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery; sharing the management of human, fiscal, and other resources; development of personnel; compliance with regulatory and professional standards; strategic planning; and fostering of interdisciplinary planning and collaborative relationships within a unit or area of responsibility and the system as a whole. Utilizes the nursing process in the direct and indirect delivery of quality age-specific patient care. Serves as a liaison for the patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and external agencies to coordinate and expedite the care of the patient. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership. Demonstrates leadership skills and organizational skills, monitors resources, and ensures compliance to policies, procedures, and standards of care. Promotes the philosophy, mission, and values as determined by SHS. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB Works in collaboration with Managers, Administrative Supervisor and staffing office to assure that site/service is staffed with appropriate mix and numbers to meet customer needs. Makes rounds on all patients, especially high risk or complex patients. Ensures accuracy in the medication process, including transport, storage, security, and/or administration of medications to include IV solutions. Provides ongoing communication to the team on management issues and goals; communicates with customers and interdisciplinary team members regarding customer, staff, management, and quality care issues. Identifies patient or environmental urgent/non-urgent situations and actively participates in problem resolution. Provides input into capital and operational budgets for the site/service. Assists manager in monitoring and managing budget; analyzes variances and takes appropriate action; develops plan for productivity improvement; monitors daily consumption of supplies; works within budget. Facilitates unit(s) level performance improvement activities, including data collection in collaboration with the nurse manager. Serves as a clinical resource/educator to facilitate the development of licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel in collaboration with the Manager and Shore Health Institute of Nursing Science. Participates in interviewing, hiring, and performance evaluation of staff for site/service. Ensures consistent application of all hospital rules and regulations. Participates in the development and implementation of nursing care policies, procedures, and standards. Active member on hospital/system/community committees, as appropriate; determines with the manager the structure of site/service committees; provides leadership to committees, as appropriate. Encourages staff participation on unit-based teams. Seeks and supports opportunities for professional growth and development. Offers support and feedback to peers. Applies principles of caring and healing in interaction with patients and families and with colleagues. Serves as coach and mentor for less experienced colleagues. Offers consistent and visible support to team members. Professional standards and current research/evidence-based practice drive decision-making. Participates in unit-based shared leadership. Responds to the following Shore Health System codes: Code Red (in the immediate area), Code Pink (when called), Code Yellow (when called), Code Green (if needed), Code Yellow (if needed). Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Meets licensing requirements to practice registered nursing in the State of Maryland. Bachelor’s preferred (or in progress). Health Care Provider BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Certification in specialty preferred. Three to five years of clinical experience within the specialty. Understanding of current nursing practice trends; knowledge in the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development. The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served. He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
