Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective surgical procedures.
• Ensure a safe operating room environment, with functional equipment and optimal patient safety during surgical procedures.
• Prepare operating room (OR) rooms, supplies, and equipment to support efficient perioperative processes.
• Maintain sterile instruments, sutures, and equipment required for surgical procedures, demonstrating a thorough working knowledge of each device.
• Assist with patient positioning and surgical preparation according to departmental standards and policies.
• Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts in collaboration with the circulator, as well as additional counts when necessary.
• Assist in draping the patient and establishing the sterile field for procedures.
• Participate in surgical site and patient verification during the time-out procedure.
• Maintain the sterile field during procedures to ensure safety for both patients and staff by adhering to the highest standards of sterile technique.
• Prepare and pass off specimens as required.
• Assist with lifting, turning, positioning, and preparing patients for surgical procedures utilizing appropriate body mechanics.
• Contribute to the maintenance of a clean and safe environment within the OR.
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Support other team members with the terminal cleaning of the operating room.
• Utilize standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when managing hazardous materials, including blood and body fluids.
• Demonstrate competency in various areas within the operating room, following relevant competency checklists.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must possess NBSTSA certification. Experience in cardiovascular operating rooms with an average of six cases per day. Confidence in performing open-heart and vascular surgical procedures is essential. Availability for weekday shifts and weekend on-call duties is required.

Compliance and Health Requirements

• Must provide verification of the following health requirements:



• MMR
• Hepatitis B
• Varicella
• 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot)
• Annual negative PPD (if applicable)


• Must provide a valid driver's license or state ID and social security card.
• Must successfully complete a McLeod Drug Screen and Criminal Background Check.
