TRAINING SPECIALIST (TRAINING DEVELOPMENT)

Duties

Help

  • Responsible for the design and development of training materials for relevant courses.
  • Accountable for staff leadership, management, direction, coordination, and oversight and control of the training support programs within USSOUTHCOM.
  • Provide policy and procedural guidance to USSOUTHCOM, Service Components, and other agencies in areas such as training support coordination, master scheduling, and training evaluation systems.
  • Manage the design of training courses to include mandatory training sequence, course length, lesson outlines, learning objectives, and resource requirements.
  • Develop unique training programs to fulfill personnel's specific needs to maintain or improve job skills and performance.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • This position may require occasional TDY travel.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • This position is designated Tier 5, Special Sensitive, High Risk and the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance Level with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access as a condition of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. Developing unique training programs to fulfill personnel's specific needs to maintain or improve job skills and performance; 2. Coordinating with educational institutions to provide targeted leadership and development trainings for command personnel; and 3. Designing training courses to fulfill mission requirements ensuring operational readiness throughout the organization.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

  • This position is statutorily excluded from bargaining unit eligibility.
  • Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 5 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six

    (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • "Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position."
  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 5 years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made

    permanent without further competition.
