Adjunct Faculty - Physics

Adjunct Faculty – Physics Location: Multiple locations within the DMV metro area. Must reside in the DMV if hired. Employment: Part‑time. Teaching load up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours in the summer session. Job Description Adjunct faculty members plan and teach physics courses to students from a variety of academic backgrounds. Instruction may be delivered face‑to‑face, remotely, or online. There is no guarantee of continued employment beyond the current appointment. Responsibilities Teach specific physics classes. Develop course syllabi and instructional materials. Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress. Adhere to NOVA and VCCS policies, procedures, and regulations. Maintain current competence in physics or a related discipline. Meet assigned classes regularly and submit required records and reports on time. Qualifications Master’s degree in Physics or a related field, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Physics. Ability to use technology to enhance instruction. Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. Ability to work with a diverse student population. Commitment to teaching excellence. Flexibility to teach day, night, and/or weekends. Additional Considerations Prior experience teaching in higher education. Previous experience with introductory level astronomy courses. Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats. Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment. Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
