Locum Tenens Gastroenterology Job Details

• Opportunity Type: 13-week locum tenens assignment
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $12,830–$13,750

• Credentialing: Approximately three months
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; weekday overnight call from 5:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.; 24-hour weekend call as needed
• Shift Duration: 10-hour shifts, with additional overnight and weekend call coverage
• Workload: Approximately 12–15 procedures and 12 hospital-based patients per day

Gastroenterology Physician Requirements

• Board-certified physician in Gastroenterology
• At least one year of recent gastroenterology experience
• Active Illinois physician license at the time of presentation
• Current DEA registration and Illinois Controlled Substance Registration
• Demonstrated proficiency with required diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures
• Ability to participate in weekday overnight and weekend call coverage
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and collaborative care skills

Gastroenterology Physician Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage hospital-based gastroenterology patients
• Perform approximately 12–15 GI procedures per day, based on clinical volume
• Perform EGD, small bowel biopsy, lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule deployment, and esophageal dilation
• Provide diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures in hospital-based GI laboratories
• Respond to weekday overnight and weekend call needs
• Document patient assessments, procedures, and treatment plans accurately in EPIC
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other members of the care team
• Deliver safe, evidence-based care while supporting efficient patient flow and continuity of treatment
