Production Associate

The Production Associate plays a key role in manufacturing advanced compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel storage systems and tanks for trucks and large commercial vehicles. In this role, you work across multiple production stations, follow detailed work instructions, and use a variety of tools and equipment to assemble, label, and prepare fuel storage systems that meet strict quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and follow detailed work instructions, procedures, and visual instruction sheets with accuracy.
• Operate assembly tools, fixtures, and specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform mechanical assembly processes in accordance with established best practices.
• Assist with filament winding operations, including resin application, resin squeezing, tool cleaning, and setting up floor mats.
• Support rotomolding processes by preparing materials and performing boss recovery tasks.
• Carry out tank labeling and foam dome installation with precision and attention to detail.
• Assemble and package products to meet or exceed quality standards and delivery timelines.
• Lift and move raw materials, finished products, and packed items as required, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Clean and lubricate equipment to ensure proper operation and longevity.
• Load and provide raw materials such as resin and paxon to support production activities.
• Dispose of scrap resin, fiber, cardboard, and other production waste in accordance with facility procedures.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and support 5S practices to keep the work area organized and safe.
• Rotate through multiple production stations, including rotomold operation, filament winding, trailer assembly, tube bending, and final inspection.
• Operate rotomold equipment to form tanks using injection mold machines.
• Work with winding machines to wrap tanks with resin and protective layers, including troubleshooting and handling carbon fiber materials.
• Perform trailer assembly tasks by preparing tanks for installation on trucks and conducting pressure tests.
• Carry out tube bending activities to install and shape metal tubing and safety equipment around the tanks.
• Support adapter, volumetric, end-of-line dome and labeling operations, including measuring tanks, checking pressurization, and performing water tank bubble tests.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure production goals, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met.
• Work mandatory overtime as needed, which may include extended 12-hour shifts and occasional Saturdays.

Essential Skills

• At least 1.5 years of production, manufacturing, or machine operation experience.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical assembly processes.
• Experience and proficiency using hand tools and power tools, with the ability to identify and describe common tools found in a toolbox.
• Ability to operate machines and production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically active work throughout the shift.
• Willingness and ability to work a second shift schedule (Monday to Friday, approximately 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with openness to a 4:00 p.m. start time).
• Flexibility to work 5060 hour workweeks, including mandatory overtime and occasional Saturdays.
• Strong attention to detail when following work instructions, performing measurements, and completing quality checks.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized work area and supporting 5S housekeeping standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with visual instruction sheets, routers, or blueprints is a plus.
• Familiarity with torque wrenches is an advantage.
• Exposure to resin, epoxy, composite materials, Kevlar, pre-preg, fiberglass, or carbon fiber is beneficial.
• Experience in general production, assembly, or machine operating in a manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working with pressurized systems and performing pressure checks is helpful but not required.
• Ability to learn and troubleshoot winding machines and other specialized production equipment.
• Steel-toed boots or the ability to obtain them for use in the facility.

Work Environment

You work in a very clean, large manufacturing facility with multiple machines running, designed to be comfortable rather than harshly industrial. The environment includes rotomold equipment, winding machines, injection mold machines, tube bending stations, and areas for assembly, labeling, and pressure testing. The role is on second shift, Monday through Friday, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with the possibility of a 4:00 p.m. start time. Mandatory overtime may lead to 12-hour days and occasional Saturday work. You use a variety of hand and power tools, work with materials such as resin, paxon, composites, fiberglass, and carbon fiber, and follow 5S housekeeping standards to keep the workspace organized and safe. Steel-toed boots are required as part of the attire for this production environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mission Viejo, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
