Registered Nurse (RN General, Dialysis, Mental Health)

Provides professional nursing care to patients housed in a correctional facility. Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients. Makes nursing rounds and takes and records vital signs. Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatment plans. Monitors patients under restraint on a timely basis and provides immediate medical attention during emergencies. Arranges transportation to hospital emergency rooms and contacts medical staff when necessary. Counsels patients regarding the need for medical referrals. If assigned, schedules and reviews the work of lower-level nursing staff. Participates in staff development and education. Reviews care plans written by staff and trains/orients new employees. Responsible for the healthcare of bedridden patients, evaluating needed care and administering medical treatment. Performs specialized procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, and CPR. Acts as the lead worker in charge of the assigned area of healthcare staff. Must clear security and adhere to facility regulations regarding personal items.
