Floor Technician

Location: Tri-County Schedule: Varies Salary: $20.00 to $21.00 per hour JOB PURPOSE The Floor Technician Floater has the responsibility to perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing and steaming carpets, stripping, sealing, finishing, and polishing floors. The floor technician operates and maintains all equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications and provides a safe and clean working environment in a cost‑effective manner. This position requires a flexible schedule, with weekly changes in day/evening hours. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Facility cleanliness and maintenance Perform any floor services and custodial duties requested by the Vocational Support Professional, Team Leader and Contract Manager, including stripping and waxing, carpet cleaning, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors, dusting, etc. Clean and restock offices, bathrooms, kitchen areas, conference and meeting rooms, and office areas daily or as per checklist. Work on a flexible schedule with hours based on the needs of the position. Work in various locations based on needs in the tri‑county assignments. Maintain work records as required by the contract site. Maintain compliance with required hard‑floor and carpet care training, including top‑scrubbing, stripping and waxing of various floor surfaces. Operate and maintain cleaning equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, including high‑speed and low‑speed floor machines and carpet machines. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. Follow the contracting agency’s policy and procedure when performing work at the contracting site. Communicate with supervisor regarding equipment repair, supplies, concerns, or unusual occurrences. Follow OSHA standards when disposing of materials that fall under OSHA guidelines. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Attend and pass all required training. Attend and participate in staff meetings, as required. Move furniture, equipment, and supplies. Accomplish all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent required. Five (5) years’ work experience in commercial cleaning or a related field. Six‑month professional experience with stripping and waxing floors. JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to negotiate the physical environment at CRC (Calvert Recreation Center). Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and act accordingly. Demonstrated ability to complete assigned tasks and duties with minimal supervision. Ability to plan work, organize, and maintain workflow while remaining flexible to varied tasks and priorities. Ability to work in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Must pass the criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland. Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle.
