Transit Operator

Position Summary The City of Jacksonville seeks Transit Operators for both full‑time (40 hours/week) and part‑time (20 hours/week) positions. Operators will serve on designated bus routes in the City and on MCB Camp Lejeune, transporting passengers, assisting with boarding and alighting, inspecting vehicles, collecting fares, operating radio equipment, and performing related duties under the moderate supervision of the Transit Dispatcher and Transit Supervisor. Key Responsibilities Operate a bus safely, adhering to planned route and schedule. Assist passengers entering and leaving the bus, including those in wheelchairs and similar mobility devices. Collect fares and transfers, record daily passenger and fare information, and provide fare adjustments as required. Announce designated stops for passengers to hear. Spot check buses for mechanical problems and report defects. Assist with maintaining clean transit vehicles. Report unsafe road conditions to the Transit Dispatcher. Provide information and directions to passengers and the general public. Assist with other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements Combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED. Must have a CDL with a Passenger Endorsement. Knowledge of regional traffic rules and regulations, geography of the City, and ability to operate passenger vehicles safely and efficiently. Ability to enunciate clearly and distinctly, remain alert and calm during stressful periods, keep accurate records, and maintain effective working relationships with clients and associates.
