We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to support a university environment in Norfolk, Virginia. This Long-term Contract position will focus on strengthening employee relations practices, guiding leaders on policy interpretation, and helping create a consistent, compliant workplace culture. The role is well suited for an HR specialist who can balance day-to-day advisory support with thorough investigations and performance management guidance.
Responsibilities:• Advise managers and department leaders on employee relations matters, workplace concerns, and appropriate resolution strategies.
• Interpret and apply HR policies to support fair, consistent, and compliant decision-making across the organization.
• Conduct and document workplace investigations involving employee complaints, policy concerns, and other sensitive personnel issues.
• Partner with leadership to address performance challenges through coaching, corrective action guidance, and follow-up planning.
• Provide hands-on HR support related to employee administration, including case management and issue escalation.
• Identify recurring workforce issues and recommend practical improvements to policies, procedures, and management practices.
• Maintain accurate records of investigations, employee relations cases, and HR actions in alignment with institutional standards.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote a respectful, policy-driven, and well-structured work environment.• At least 5 years of experience in human resources, with strong exposure to HR business partnering or employee relations work.
• Demonstrated ability to manage employee relations investigations with sound judgment, discretion, and attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of HR policy interpretation and application in a complex organizational setting.
• Experience supporting performance management processes, including coaching leaders on employee issues.
• Background in HR administration and handling sensitive personnel matters with confidentiality.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust across different levels of an organization.
• Ability to organize multiple priorities, document cases thoroughly, and manage issues in a timely manner.
