Cafeteria Worker

Job Summary Under direction and supervision of the supervisor of cafeterias. Responsible for the preparation of major portions of meals in a school cafeteria; to assist in the maintenance of the cafeteria; prepares, cooks, and serves all parts of the breakfast and lunch program, including but not limited to vegetables, main dishes, breads and pastries, desserts, etc.; assists in inventorying, ordering, receiving and storing foodstuffs and supplies; calculates amounts of food to be prepared according to lunch count; and does other related work as required.

Required Qualifications 1. Knowledge of: Proper method of preparing, cooking, and serving foods; sanitation and safety requirements in food service areas. 2. Ability to: Prepare food fitted to the needs of children; requisition proper amounts of food; maintain cooperative working relations with others; operate common mechanical appliances found in a cafeteria; keep simple records; follow oral and written directions. 3. Experience and Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Work experience, either paid or unpaid, may substitute for two years of the required education on a year-for year basis. Current Serve Safe Certificate.

Essential Functions of this Position 1. Uses a prescribed menu and follows established procedures. 2. Prepares and may supervise the major cooking or baking tasks in the preparation of the main meal. 3. Supervises student workers. 4. Checks recipes and estimates quantities of supplies needed. 5. Helps prepare salads and serves meals to pupils and staff. 6. Helps with the cleaning of the kitchen, kitchen equipment and eating utensils. 7. Assists in arranging proper storage of food and supplies. 8. Follows standards of sanitation that will pass County Health Department inspections.
