In this role, you’ll provide frontline technical support for classroom and audiovisual technologies, assist with the installation and maintenance of instructional systems, and help ensure reliable technology experiences for faculty, staff, and students. Working as part of the Learning Environments team, you’ll contribute to innovative teaching and learning spaces across campus. Key Responsibilities User Support & Technology Services Provide technical support and consultation for faculty, staff, and students to resolve technology issues and optimize system performance. Troubleshoot hardware, software, and audiovisual technologies in classrooms and other instructional spaces. Deliver user training and develop support materials that help maximize technology adoption and effectiveness. Respond to technology requests promptly while maintaining a high level of customer service. Support the operation and maintenance of classrooms, labs, conference rooms, and other technology-enabled spaces. Configure systems to meet instructional needs while ensuring reliable performance and connectivity. Perform preventative maintenance and assist with equipment upgrades and technology refreshes. Help maintain secure, functional, and accessible instructional environments. Systems Integration & AV Technology Install, configure, and test audiovisual equipment, including displays, cameras, microphones, video capture appliances, and control systems. Assist with Classroom and active learning environment projects, including hardware installation and system integration. Support classroom streaming, special events, and instructional technology initiatives. Research emerging instructional technologies and contribute to innovative learning environments. Collaborate with IT colleagues, faculty, and campus partners to support instructional technology initiatives. Assist with preparing documentation, cost estimates, and technical recommendations for classroom technology projects. Position is designated non‑exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Work hours are Monday – Thursday 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm and Friday 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, but may vary based on operational needs. The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego. Department Summary The mission of the Information Technology Division is to develop the long‑term infrastructure, services, and strategy necessary to support the University’s mission of learning, discovery, and engagement. The IT Division has the stewardship responsibility for core IT assets on campus and the obligation to provide the services, training, and community building necessary to realize the benefits of those investments across the San Diego State University community. The IT Services (ITS) | Learning Environments department is responsible for designing, delivering, and supporting technology‑enabled instructional spaces and conference rooms that advance teaching, learning, collaboration, and engagement at San Diego State University. The department leads the development and standardization of classroom and audiovisual technologies, ensuring reliable, accessible, and consistent experiences across academic and administrative spaces campus wide. In partnership with faculty, academic units, and IT Services, Learning Environments integrates pedagogy and technology through the full lifecycle of instructional and conference space technologies, from planning and implementation to support and continuous improvement. Through proactive service and technical expertise, the department enables high quality, flexible, and future‑ready learning and meeting experiences for the SDSU community. Education and Experience Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Relevant education and/or experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. Key Qualifications General knowledge of information technology systems, applications, and networks. General knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting and related technology support practices. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to work with students, faculty, and staff to obtain pertinent information, communicate technical information to diverse audiences, and document issues and resolutions. Computer skills to appropriately respond to IT complaints and issues. Preferred Experience providing technology support in a professional or educational environment. Experience with audiovisual (AV) control systems or similar technologies. Experience preparing technical diagrams and documentation (e.g., line drawings, floor plans, parts lists, work plans) for technology implementation or infrastructure projects. Licenses/Certifications Required Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire. Compensation Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($4,595/month). Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,595‑$6,694 per month (Step 1‑Step 20). Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
