Academic Youth Development Professional – Morton Location: 4606 Terrace Drive, Omaha, NE 68134, United States. Job Category: Operations, Out of School, Youth. Employee Type: Full‑Time (Non‑Exempt). Wage: Starting at $18.50 to $20.50 per hour. Reports to: Club Director. Schedule: Monday to Friday, 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Organization Information The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands (BGCM), an affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is a comprehensive out‑of‑school provider that supports vulnerable youth in the Midlands. Position Summary The Academic Youth Development Professional works with members to facilitate their personal, social and educational development, enabling them to gain voice, influence, and place in society as they transition from dependence to independence. The professional delivers educational, career, sports, fitness, arts, leadership, STEM, outdoor education, aquatics (when applicable), and other assigned programs to members ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade. The role may require transportation using the BGCM vehicle fleet and continuous monitoring of programming, discipline and guidance to maintain quality through the 5 Key Elements of Positive Youth Development, the Program Quality Assessment (PQA) tool, and progress assessment. Essential Functions Embrace overarching youth‑development principles: Positive child and youth development practices, focusing on strengths, high expectations, and positive relationships. Respect and value cultures, traditions, and differences of all members, families, and communities; treat all equally regardless of race, religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, age or disability. Appreciate diverse abilities and needs. Understand BGCM mission, policies and practices. Comply with BGCM safety requirements. Promote an inclusive, welcoming, respectful environment that embraces diversity. Foster academic skills that promote positive outcomes. Deliver high‑quality programs and activities to members. Supervise members directly. Maintain accurate, timely records of activities and meals. Complete incident reports with proper documentation. Use computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) effectively. Set appropriate physical and emotional boundaries; address bullying and disruptive behavior; maintain order. Apply the SEL (Social & Emotional Learning) model: Self‑Management: manage emotions and behaviors to achieve goals. Self‑Awareness: recognize emotions, values, strengths, and challenges. Social Awareness: show empathy and understanding for others. Responsible Decision‑Making: make ethical, constructive choices. Relationship Skills: build positive relationships and resolve conflict. Use child and youth‑development knowledge to achieve BGCM goals. Comply with safety and emergency requirements. Develop academic and non‑academic skills; broaden horizons. Implement BGCM/BGCA curricula and activities. Promote responsible and healthy decision‑making among members. Develop leadership, teamwork, and self‑advocacy skills. Qualifications 2–4 years of college study in education. 3–4 years of experience working with youth, at‑risk youth (preferred); experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Basic knowledge of developmental milestones in physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development. Ability to interact positively with members individually and in groups, using strength‑based and affirmative techniques. Compassion and sensitivity toward vulnerable populations and diverse backgrounds. Strong organizational, project‑management, and attention‑to‑detail skills; promptness. Proficiency in virtual environments and technology advocacy. Skill in Microsoft Windows, Internet, Microsoft Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, database software), Zoom, and Google Platform (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides). Must be able to earn and maintain mandatory CPR & First Aid certification or obtain it within six months of hire. Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility to drive a BGCM vehicle. Must pass a drug test and criminal and driving record investigation. Adequate reading and writing skills for reports and documentation. Reliable transportation to sites or meetings.
