Specialist, Financial Counseling

Position Summary The Inpatient Financial Counseling Specialist performs benefit education and validation, including face‑to‑face review of inpatient benefits, authorization, and collection. The role accurately verifies and calculates patient liabilities, handles patient payments, and may require nights, weekends, and holidays. Responsibilities are carried out in accordance with Ensemble Health Partners policies, processes, and regulatory compliance requirements. Location & Compensation This position pays between $18.65 and $19.90 per hour based on experience and is an onsite role at Valley – Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal, VA. Candidates must be able to work on‑site. Responsibilities Perform benefit education and validation, including face‑to‑face review of inpatient benefits, authorization, and collection. Accurately verify and calculate patient liabilities, including previous balances and patient payments. Provide work during nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Follow policies and processes used across the organization. Assess and collect patient liabilities such as copays, deductibles, co‑insurance, and balances after financial assistance. Communicate face‑to‑face with patients during their stay to collect estimated liability. Work various patient access, insurance eligibility, and follow‑up reports as assigned. Facilitate daily in‑house call reviews to validate patient payor source with authorization. Complete pre‑registration and registration tasks, including registering patients at the time of service or prior to the date of service while attempting to collect the patient’s financial liability. Monitor missed collection opportunities for process improvements and follow‑up. Make at least three attempts each day to visit a patient’s room if the patient was previously pre‑occupied. Note all accounts with a patient liability daily. Make follow‑up phone calls to patients who cannot make payment while in‑house. Send letters to patients’ addresses post‑discharge detailing an estimated liability and options to pay. Work with patients to sign consent to treat, observation, Important Message from Medicare, and other registration‑related forms if applicable. Assist eligibility specialists in verification of insurance information, Medicaid and charity processing, and other tasks as needed. Run a daily census to determine patients with potential eligibility. Assist in the collection and organization of outpatient orders related to future and current dates of service using Revenue Cycle systems. Qualifications 1+ years of customer service experience. High School Diploma or GED. Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) within six months of hire (company paid).
