Role Purpose The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for our patients and therefore must represent BJC with the highest standard of customer service, compassion, and professionalism. This role facilitates all components of a patient’s entrance into any BJC facility and requires a high level of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and the ability to make a personal connection. The position impacts the ability to maximize reimbursements and prevent denials through accurate collection of demographics, insurance information, benefit verification, and point‑of‑service collection. The role also ensures correct patient identification within the Master Patient Index (MPI) and maintains knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal, state, and accreditation agency standards. Responsibilities Utilize critical thinking skills to problem‑solve a variety of situations, anticipating patients’ needs and responding effectively, communicating professionally, positively, and patient‑focused via in‑person or remote channels. Perform hospital registration and scheduling across multiple BJC systems, ensuring proper patient identification, registration, scheduling, insurance verification, document retrieval, and order validation. Ensure compliance with Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA Privacy Standards, Patient Bill of Rights, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, and JCAHO requirements. Operate as a safety‑sensitive position, maintaining alertness and performing duties safely and effectively. Minimum Requirements Education: High School Diploma or GED. Experience: No Experience.
