Senior Strategic Buyer

This manufacturer is looking for a Senior Buyer with extensive experience in the chemical or automotive manufacturing industry to lead operational procurement initiatives in collaboration with global strategy managers. The role calls for someone skilled in tough supplier negotiations, identifying risk mitigation and cost saving opportunities, and managing the execution of procurement projects across direct materials, capital equipment, and services within a fast paced, operationally driven manufacturing environment.

Schedule: Full time, standard business hours with some flexibility available. Primarily office based, with occasional visits to production areas.

Compensation: $110,000 to $130,000 per year.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will conduct detailed market research to identify, screen, and onboard alternative suppliers, reducing reliance on single or sole sources and strengthening the preferred supplier portfolio. You will support evaluation of supplier pricing, delivery performance, and capability, developing and implementing sourcing plans that maximize value and reduce costs, while identifying and driving cost saving initiatives across categories using market insights and supplier data.

You will lead target driven negotiations with key suppliers to secure favorable terms, building and maintaining strong supplier partnerships focused on quality, reliability, and competitiveness. Monitoring supplier performance, enforcing compliance, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives will be an ongoing part of the role. As procurement project lead for multi sourcing or capital projects and operational initiatives, you will coordinate cross functional teams to secure timelines and deliverables, and will support new product launches by securing material supply and supplier APQP.

On the operational side, you will identify supply chain risks and improvement opportunities, support production and operations to ensure uninterrupted supply, and manage multiple high priority tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and compliance. You'll drive continuous improvement in procurement processes and tools, support inventory optimization and shortage tracking, and interface with finance to ensure pricing and invoicing accuracy.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field
• 7 to 10 years of procurement experience within the chemical, process, or automotive manufacturing industry, covering direct materials, capital equipment, and services
• Proven track record in complex negotiations and supplier management, with demonstrated cost reduction results
• Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross functional procurement projects
• Proficiency in ERP systems and procurement tools
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• CIPS, CIPP, or CPSM accreditation
• German language proficiency
• Experience applying structured problem solving methodologies in a procurement or manufacturing setting
