Position Overview

This role is situated at a prominent military medical facility located in Fort Sam Houston, TX. The organization operates a 425-bed academic medical center, recognized as the largest Department of Defense facility and the only Level 1 trauma center in its category. Additionally, it houses the Center for the Intrepid, which specializes in outpatient rehabilitation. The center comprises ten distinct organizations, including community medical clinics, all centered around the Army's largest inpatient hospital. Over 8,000 personnel, including soldiers, airmen, sailors, civilians, and contractors, are dedicated to providing care for injured service members and the broader San Antonio community.

The history of this medical center dates back to 1879, when the first Post Hospital was established as a modest medical dispensary in a single-story wooden structure. By 1886, a permanent hospital was constructed, followed by the establishment of an 84-bed Station Hospital in 1908 on the western side of the post.

Eligibility: Open to U.S. Citizens

• Deliver anesthesia services to a diverse range of patients requiring surgical or procedural interventions.
• Administer suitable diagnostic and therapeutic nerve blocks for managing acute and chronic pain.
• Supervise recovery room activities and provide necessary drug and respiratory therapy in that environment.
• Educate nurse anesthesia students, physicians, interns, and rotating physicians on the proper administration of anesthesia.
• Conduct advanced diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Make informed treatment recommendations based on knowledge of the latest techniques.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the educational and experiential criteria outlined below. Experience encompasses both paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations. All relevant experience will be considered, and your resume should clearly detail your qualifications. If qualifying through education, transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Degree: Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by recognized bodies such as the American Medical Association or the Association of American Medical Colleges. For degrees obtained from foreign medical schools, candidates must demonstrate equivalency through certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory. (Note: Attach a copy of your license/registration with your application.)

Graduate Training: Following the attainment of a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, candidates must have completed at least one year of supervised clinical experience, such as an internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution. Applicants must have successfully completed accredited residency training in Anesthesiology, along with equivalent experience and training totaling at least four years. Experience cannot substitute for the required residency training specific to this specialty.

If selected for a Physician role, a salary quote will not be provided at the initial job offer stage. The salary determination process will commence once the initial offer is accepted, involving the Activity Compensation Panel to establish base pay and market pay. The final salary will be communicated once approved, based on a tier scale determined by specialty, grade, and location.
